Why You’ll Love This Cherry Chocolate Chunk Soft Serve Recipe

Naturally Sweetened and Dairy-Free: This recipe uses pure maple syrup for a natural sweetness, while oat milk keeps it completely dairy-free. You’ll enjoy all the indulgent flavors of cherries and chocolate without any refined sugars or dairy, making it a healthier yet delicious alternative to store-bought ice cream.

No Ice Cream Maker Needed: Unlike traditional ice cream recipes, this soft serve requires only a food processor, making it super simple and accessible for anyone to make at home. In just 20 minutes, you can whip up a creamy, decadent treat without any fancy equipment!

Substitutions

Frozen Cherries: Make sure to use frozen dark cherries for the best texture and flavor. If you only have fresh cherries, pit and freeze them ahead of time (although fresh cherries aren’t the same as this type of dark, sweet cherry).

Oat Milk: I used unsweetened oat milk in this recipe, because oats are naturally sweet already (and the milk is creamier) as compared to some other non-dairy milks. You can swap in with your choice of milk (note that lower-calorie milks, like 30-calorie per cup almond milk from Silk, will reduce the richness of this recipe).

You can also use sweetened oat milk (or another sweetened milk), but may need to start with less maple syrup in the mixture, then taste it and add more as desired.

Maple Syrup: Swap in with agave nectar. If using maple syrup, choose 100% pure syrup (the only ingredient should “maple syrup” on the label). It should also be “light” syrup as opposed to dark syrup, which has a very robust maple flavor.

Dark Chocolate: Dark chocolate contrasts with the sweetness of the cherries, so it works best. You can also swap in regular semisweet chocolate chips, mini chocolate chips or chocolate chunks. Check the ingredient label to make sure there’s no milk or milk powder added (so it’s vegan chocolate).
