Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal
Was cereal a whole other food group for you as a child? Or maybe … it still is? My childhood revolved around boxes of Frosted Flakes, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Apple Jacks, Fruit Loops and all else SUGAR. Oh, and every episode under the sun of Arthur (also, October 4th was the anniversary of when the Arthur episode aired where DW broke his plane and got a fist right to her face – iconic).
Although I haven’t bought pre-made cereals in ~ages~, I did have an odd craving for the cinnamon-y milk that I would have leftover at the bottom of a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal. So I made a homemade cinnamon syrup that I swirled into milk, topped with vegan whipped cream and voila! CINNAMON CEREAL MILK.
Making the Cinnamon Syrup
To make the cinnamon syrup, there are just three ingredients: sweetener, water and cinnamon. Use a liquid sweetener such as maple syrup, agave, brown rice syrup, date syrup or other. I used 100% pure maple syrup and it worked perfectly, but beware that other sweeteners have their own aftertaste. Add the ingredients to a stovetop pan for 1-2 minutes until the mixture is a thicker syrup, and that’s it! Homemade cinnamon syrup.
Making the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Milk
Make sure the oat milk is warmed up (or whichever milk you’re using – I just find that oat milk is the most environmentally friendly as well as tastes the most neutral out of other plant-based milks). By keeping the milk a little warmer than room temperature, it ensures that the syrup doesn’t just stick to the inside of the cup, but rather dissolves in it.
Once you have everything mixed (which you can also do in a blender if you do want to use cold milk – a blender should incorporate everything properly), add vegan whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. Enjoy!
