Substitutions
Mango: If you don’t have fresh mango, or frozen mango that can be thawed out, ripe peaches can be a wonderful substitute. They offer a similar sweet and juicy quality that pairs beautifully with mint and lime. Additionally, pineapple provides a tropical twist and can be used to create a Pineapple Mojito instead. It’s a bit tangier than mango but equally refreshing.
Maple Syrup: Agave syrup is a great vegan alternative to maple syrup. It’s mild in flavor and will sweeten your drink effectively.
Sparkling Water: Club Soda is the most common substitute for sparkling water. It adds effervescence without altering the flavor significantly. Soda water is another option that works well in this recipe. It’s essentially carbonated water, just like sparkling water.
Lime Juice: Use fresh limes for the lime juice, versus a pre-bottled juice. If you don’t have lime juice, lemon juice can step in. It brings a citrusy zing that’s quite similar to lime.
Mint: Fresh basil leaves can be a unique substitute for mint. They provide a different herbal note that pairs surprisingly well with mango.
Fresh Mango Mojito Recipe Notes
- To get the best flavor, opt for ripe and sweet mangoes. You’ll know they’re ready when they yield slightly to gentle pressure and have a fruity aroma.
- Add ice cubes to your serving glasses before pouring in the mixture. This not only chills the drink but also dilutes it slightly, balancing the flavors.
- Mojitos are at their freshest right after preparation. Serve them immediately to enjoy the full flavor and effervescence.
- A popular serving glass for mocktails would be a highball glass, making it look like the alcoholic version.
