Healthy Vegan Cookie Dough Smoothie

Today we are making a Healthy Vegan Cookie Dough Smoothie! Cookie dough has always been a favorite snack of mine, and raw cookie dough that’s safe for consumption has started popping up in grocery stores over the last few years (even vegan cookie dough brands, like Deux)! This snack is popular around the country, and with good reason!

The buttery, sweet, slightly vanilla flavor of cookie dough makes it appealing to eat straight out of the bowl, before you get a chance to even shape and bake them into cookies. Cookie dough in some form, whether it be cookie dough balls, ice cream, or really any form of this flavor is a sweet treat! (I’ve even tried a chickpea cookie dough recipe using a base of garbanzo beans, which blew my mind).

So for today, this oatmeal cookie dough smoothie uses a ton of wholesome ingredients, is full of healthy fats, is a great source of fiber, protein, is low sugar and has the good stuff – all while being a delicious drink!

Why You’ll Love This Healthy Vegan Cookie Dough Smoothie

Cookie Dough Flavor: Many people enjoy the taste of cookie dough, and this smoothie allows you to indulge in that flavor while still being healthy. The combination of smoothie ingredients like vanilla extract, rolled oats, and a touch of sweetness from the maple syrup gives it a delicious cookie dough taste!

Substitutions

Oat Milk: I use Suzie’s brand of oat milk, which just consists of oat milk and water on the ingredient label. I find that this oat milk is thinner in consistency but also sweeter. It contains just the basic ingredients and no natural flavors or fillers as compared to other brands. You can also use cashew milk, almond milk or soy milk for a high-protein option, although oat milk has the slightly sweet and nutty flavor for a cookie dough flavor.

Oats: Use rolled oats for better blending and a little more fibre and protein. You can also use quick oats too.

Banana: Use a fresh, ripe banana. It should be just starting to turn spotty – not too green, but not too spotted. You can also use a frozen banana instead for added thickness.

Maple Syrup: Use pure maple syrup, that doesn’t contain any added ingredients. You can also use agave nectar or fresh Medjool dates instead. If you don’t have a very high-powered blender though, the dates may not break up very finely, and will leave chunks.

Chocolate Chips: Find vegan semisweet chocolate chips, that don’t contain dairy products such as milk powder in the ingredients. Semisweet chocolate works best in cookie dough. However, dark chocolate is also an option if you prefer the underlying bitter flavor. Vegan milk chocolate will be very sweet for this recipe, and won’t work as well as semisweet because of the higher milk and sugar flavors.

For a raw option, use cacao nibs instead of chocolate – they will be very bitter though.

Healthy Vegan Cookie Dough Smoothie Recipe Notes

  • For peanut butter lovers, add a spoon of peanut butter and a little more milk to compensate for the added thickness.
  • Alternatively, add almond butter for a nuttier flavor that would blend well with this recipe.
  • Pour this drink into a bowl to make a healthy cookie dough smoothie bowl. Add all your favorite toppings for a filling breakfast!
