Substitutions
Bread: Choose a good-quality gluten-free bread for the best results. Look for a fresh bread loaf or cut up bread that’s slightly firm and not overly crumbly. You can use store-bought gluten-free bread or make your own, but it doesn’t specifically need to be gluten-free either. Use any kind of bread you find at the grocery store or have on hand.
Plus, if you have bread that’s going stale, then what better way to use it than to air fry to make your own croutons? To ensure these are vegan croutons, choose bread that also doesn’t contain any eggs or dairy products. To keep it refined sugar-free, make sure the bread used doesn’t contain added sugars on the ingredient label.
Italian Seasoning: Pre-made Italian seasoning blends will work, but you an also make your own seasoning with your preferred mix of dried herbs.
Olive Oil: Use regular olive oil, vegan melted butter or avocado oil instead.
Homemade Gluten Free Air Fryer Croutons Recipe Notes
- These croutons are super versatile. Use them to top on your favorite salads (like caesar salads!), add them into creamy soups (tomato soup is best had with croutons, right?!), or even as a crunchy addition to pasta dishes. They’re also fantastic as a standalone snack!
- Depending on the size of your air fryer, you might need to cook the croutons in batches to avoid overcrowding. Give the croutons some space to allow proper air circulation for even cooking.
