Why You’ll Love This Iced Green Tea Lemonade Recipe
Inspired by Starbucks, Made Better at Home: While this recipe is inspired by the popular Starbucks Iced Green Tea Lemonade, it’s crafted with a personal touch that sets it apart. Instead of relying on pre-packaged tea bags, we use fresh matcha powder and freshly squeezed lemon juice. This means you get a richer, more vibrant flavor profile with every sip, as the matcha is whisked to perfection and the lemon is as fresh as it gets. This homemade version allows you to enjoy the essence of Starbucks’ classic drink with an upgraded, more authentic twist.
Naturally Sweetened: We’ve swapped out refined sugars that are usually packed in lemonade, for pure maple syrup, adding a touch of natural sweetness that enhances the drink without overpowering it. This subtle sweetness not only complements the tartness of the lemon but also blends beautifully with the matcha, creating a balanced and enjoyable flavor profile. It’s a healthier alternative that makes every glass feel like a special treat.
Substitutions
Matcha Powder: For the best flavor, use high-quality matcha powder. Ceremonial grade matcha offers a smoother, more nuanced taste compared to culinary grade. Make sure the matcha is fresh and has been stored in an airtight container away from light and heat to preserve its vibrant color and flavor. You can order this online or find it at the grocery store. I used this brand of matcha from my local grocery store.
Lemons: Do not substitute the lemon – this is the basis of lemonade!
Maple Syrup: Substitute with agave nectar (which is not refined sugar-free). If using maple syrup, go for pure syrup which just contains one ingredient on the label. It should be lighter syrup (golden maple syrup) as opposed to the darker version which is stronger.
Iced Matcha Green Tea Lemonade Recipe Notes
- Properly whisking the matcha is crucial for a smooth texture and to avoid clumps. Use a bamboo whisk if possible, and whisk in a zigzag motion until the matcha is fully dissolved and frothy. If you don’t have a bamboo whisk, a small hand-held frother can work as well.
- Lemon slices not only add a decorative touch but also enhance the lemon flavor as they infuse into the drink over time. Feel free to experiment with other garnishes like mint leaves as well.
