Starbucks Copycat Coffee Frappuccino

Today we are making a Starbucks Copycat Coffee Frappuccino! Having an iced coffee drink is perfect on a hot summer day and is the perfect vibe to set the mood, right?!

As Starbucks describes it, this drink is “coffee meets milk and ice in a blender for a rumble-and-tumble togetherness to create one of our most-beloved original Frappuccino® blended beverages”.

The following ingredients are used: Ice, Milk, Coffee Frappuccino Syrup [Sugar, Water, Natural Flavor, Salt, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid], Coffee. So the basic recipe is just ice, milk, coffee and sugar. That’s exactly what we’re going to be using today, but in a healthier, cheaper, vegan and homemade version of this famous Starbucks drink!

From the rich, robust flavor of coffee to the velvety texture that makes Starbucks Frappuccinos so irresistible, this recipe captures all the elements you love without any dairy. Imagine the convenience of stepping into your kitchen, blending together a handful of simple ingredients, and savoring the velvety smoothness and rich flavors that make Starbucks Frappuccinos so popular. No more worrying about dairy or animal-derived products – these recipes prioritize cruelty-free alternatives without compromising on taste.

Why You’ll Love This Starbucks Copycat Coffee Frappuccino

Copycat Starbucks Flavor: One of the best things about this homemade version is that it captures the authentic Starbucks flavor. You’ll be able to enjoy the rich and bold taste of coffee combined with creamy sweetness, just like the original Frappuccino. For best results, make the coffee (and frozen coffee) using Starbucks coffee beans!

Healthy Alternative Options: If you’re looking for a specific recipe for this blended drink to fit dietary needs, you can easily modify it. Use more milk for a soy-free version instead of tofu, use sugar alternatives instead of maple syrup and find more substitutions below!

Substitutions: Coffee & Milk

Cold Brew: Use cold black coffee as a substitute to cold brew. The taste of cold brew has less of a bitter taste, which works well in a sweet recipe like this. However, your favorite coffee or espresso from a moka pot, french press or a coffee / espresso machine can work as well.

Part of the cold brew or coffee is frozen and used as ice in the blender, and the rest is used as a chilled liquid. You can make cold brew at home or buy it from the refrigerated section with coffee drinks in the grocery store. You can also make strong coffee at home using instant espresso and hot water as per the instructions on the container of instant espresso.

Oat Milk: Instead of using heavy cream or cold milk, oat milk with silken tofu makes for a light, yet creamy, drink. Substitute with another plant-based milk of choice. Almond milk, cashew milk, macadamia nut milk, soy milk and other unflavored non-dairy milks may work. You can also choose a chocolate vegan milk for a chocolate coffee frappuccino! The oat milk will be used chilled from the refrigerator, but also frozen into cubes for this recipe.

Substitutions: Tofu, Sweetener & Vanilla

Maple Syrup: Use pure maple syrup, without any added ingredients – unlike pancake syrup. Substitute with agave nectar or another sweetener of choice. Monkfruit sweetener can work as a dry sweetener, similar to white sugar.

Note that the darker the maple syrup (or agave) the more maple flavor (or caramel flavor) will come through in the drink. A light agave or light maple syrup would work well here, without imparting too strong of a flavor. The darker versions of these sweeteners will still work well, although the flavor might be more pronounced.

Vanilla: For best results, use pure vanilla extract. This doesn’t contain any added dyes, caramel color or other artificial ingredients. Imitation vanilla flavor will work, albeit not taste as sweet as pure vanilla. This recipe only uses a quarter teaspoon vanilla extract, but feel free to add more after tasting it.

Silken Tofu: Silken is the softest type of tofu there is – it ranges from silken (softest) to extra-firm (hardest). This hidden ingredient helps to make a creamier drink overall! Note that there are different flavors of silken tofu. It can also be eaten as dessert depending on the flavor. Make sure to choose the unflavored, plain version for this recipe. I used Sunrise silken tofu here, but any brand of plain silken tofu can work. Do not substitute this with vegan heavy whipping cream or coconut cream.

Starbucks Copycat Coffee Frappuccino Recipe Notes

  • Note that the recipe calls for about a quarter block of frozen silken tofu to be used. The grams are also written alongside the ingredient in the recipe card below, and it should be measured after freezing to use the correct amount. You can cut the silken tofu up before freezing, so it’s easy to blend them.
  • Gay Lea brand makes a vegan coconut whipped cream that comes out of aerosol can. This is my go-to whipped cream can for topping on drinks. However, different brands also make non-coconut-based vegan whipped creams as well (such as Reddi Whip).
  • Top this drink with vegan mini chocolate chips or a drizzle of vegan caramel syrup from this macchiato recipe!
