Vegan Chocolate Covered Strawberry Milkshake Recipe

Today we are making a Vegan Chocolate Covered Strawberry Milkshake Recipe! Dip that strawberry in hot fudge, watch it drizzle and drip, aaaaand … there it goes, straight plop onto your favorite white t-shirt. So worth it though – chocolate-covered strawberries taste like candy! But if you’re not one to eat lots of fruit by itself, add it to something that has chocolate in it and you’re bound to be drooling. By melting chocolate, drizzling it over fruits and freezing them on popsicle sticks (with pecans, coconut and delicious toppings) you can’t go wrong for a party snack.

Although I do sometimes prefer to drink my fruits to get in a larger serving of fruits and veggies. Plus, all those perfect morning routines on social media has got me craving healthy smoothies in the morning. Well, like I said, adding chocolate to everything turns it into dessert. So this is why I chose a creamy chocolate strawberry smoothie recipe as today’s blog post! We have three components to this easy recipe:

Components Of The Milkshake

Milkshake: We use a base of frozen bananas, frozen strawberries and milk with a hint of vanilla and sweetener. The frozen fruit here adds the creaminess that you wouldn’t get with regular fruit. The milk makes it even creamier! You can adjust the sweetness as desired.

Chocolate Drizzle: We will use melted chocolate, cocoa powder and some sweetener for this. If you don’t have dark or semisweet chocolate (or cocoa powder) you can interchange them in a 1:1 ratio. If you want it sweeter, or perhaps more bitter, play around with the proportions of the ingredients as you desire.

Vegan Whipped Topping: I use Gay Lea’s brand of vegan coconut whipped cream. It’s available in most grocery stores in my area, but I’m sure there are other brands depending on where you live.

This is a creamy and delicious milkshake that you’ll want to add to your list of favorite recipes – let’s get onto the ingredients!

Why You’ll Love This Vegan Chocolate Covered Strawberry Milkshake Recipe

Creamy Milkshake Without Dairy: Frozen bananas and strawberries as the main ingredients lend a thick texture and the ultimate creaminess to this recipe without any dairy in it! Coconut cream adds additional creaminess, which is optional, and even without it this recipe is full of nutrients and will leave you feeling refreshed! Using fruits also adds a natural sweetness without too much added sugar.

Valentine’s Day Treat: This tasty recipe is perfect as a sweet treat for you and your loved one as part of a Valentine’s Day healthy breakfast! Or make a thick milkshake with a burger and fries at home, the perfect let’s-eat-homemade-fast-food-and-drink-milkshake-while-watching-a-movie vibe, no?!

Substitutions

Maple Syrup: Substitute with agave nectar instead. If using maple syrup, choose pure syrup with only one ingredient – maple syrup – on the label.

Oat Milk: Substitute with another neutral, unsweetened non-dairy milk of choice – cashew milk, almond milk or macadamia milk without added sugar are good options. For a more creamy texture, use half vegan yogurt or coconut cream for healthy fats, then half milk.

Strawberries: Buy a bag of frozen strawberries, or freeze your own fresh. Do not use fresh strawberries, as they contain too much water and will not maintain the milkshake consistency. You can also try this recipe with frozen cherries! I do not recommend using all frozen raspberries though, as they will be too tangy for this shake.

Bananas: Buy a bag of frozen bananas, or freeze your own bananas that are starting to get spotty – this recipe is a great way to use those up. If they are partly spotty, not too dark and not too yellow, they’re perfect to chop up, put into a Ziploc bag or freezer-safe container, and freeze for this recipe! Do not use room temperature bananas, as they will not have the same consistency for a milkshake.

Vanilla Extract: Choose a high-quality vanilla extract, without additional caramel color or dyes. You can also use pure vanilla flavor, which is non-alcoholic so can’t have the “extract” label.

Vegan Chocolate Chips: Check the ingredient list to make sure there are no added milk products in the chocolate chips (so they are vegan). For best results, use semisweet chocolate chips. For a slightly more bitter (and lower in sugar) option, use dark chocolate chips. You can even find refined sugar-free chocolate chips in the natural foods aisle of some grocery stores for a refined sugar-free option.
