Now, you might be wondering, “Tofu in a feta herb dip?” Yes, indeed! We’ve replaced the traditional feta with a portion of extra-firm tofu, making this dip completely vegan while still capturing that creamy and tangy essence. Our flavor profile is enhanced with a tantalizing blend of dried thyme, oregano, basil, and a hint of zesty lemon juice. These seasonings come together with the remaining whipped feta ingredients to create a symphony of Mediterranean-inspired flavors that are simply irresistible. Serve it as an easy appetizer at your next gathering, a dip for your salad or all for yourself with some chips and pita bread!
What’s In This Dip?
To craft this creamy dip, you’ll need a few key plant-based ingredients. Start with a drizzle of olive oil to infuse the dish with a rich and robust Mediterranean flavor. The fresh lemon juice adds a delightful citrusy kick and tangy flavor that balances the saltiness of the feta. A pinch of pink salt and pepper adds depth and seasoning, ensuring that every bite is bursting with flavor. And don’t forget the optional roasted tomatoes as the crowning jewel! They infuse the dip with a burst of sweet, roasted goodness that’s the perfect finishing touch. Add some red pepper flakes, lemon zest, fresh parsley or a sprinkle of garnishes of your choice when serving! The best part about this vegan dip is that there’s also no cream cheese, vegan feta cheese or other gourmet vegan ingredients to find – we use tofu and all wholesome ingredients!
With this easy vegan feta dip, you’ll not only satisfy your cravings for a trendy and delicious dish but also experience a new twist on a viral sensation that has taken the culinary world by storm. So, let’s dive into making this mouthwatering dip that’s perfect for dipping, spreading, or just savoring by the spoonful!
Why You’ll Love This Vegan Whipped Feta Dip Recipe with Lemon & Herbs
Burst of Mediterranean Flavors: With a medley of dried thyme, oregano, basil, and a touch of zesty lemon juice, this creamy whipped feta dip is a Mediterranean flavor explosion. These herbs and spices come together to transport your taste buds to the sunny shores of Greece, where the traditional feta cheese hails from. The combination is both fragrant and fresh, making every bite of this herb dip a delight to eat (and this makes the best appetizer to serve at a party)!
Substitutions
Tofu: Opt for extra-firm tofu for the best results. It has the right texture and consistency to mimic the creaminess of traditional feta cheese. Before using it, make sure to press the tofu to remove excess moisture. This will help achieve the desired creamy texture.
Lemon Juice: For best results, squeeze juice from a fresh lemon as opposed to pre-bottled juice, which has a more acidic taste.
Garlic: Do not use pre-crushed garlic. Buy fresh garlic cloves and grate them at home. It makes a world of difference in terms of taste! Bottles or bags of the pre-made stuff also contain preservatives and added ingredients that change the taste, as per my experience.
Olive Brine: This is the extra water leftover in a glass jar of Kalamata olives.
Extra-Virgin Olive Oil: Extra-virgin olive oil has a stronger flavor than refined olive oil. It is also less processed, which is a win-win! You can use virgin or regular olive oil too, but extra-virgin would be best. The main difference is that regular olive oil is heated to extract the oil. Extra-virgin olive oil is cold-pressed and not as refined, which changes the taste.
Parsley: Parsley adds the best flavor with the ingredients here. You can use another herb, such as fresh basil instead.
White Wine Vinegar: Try red wine vinegar instead. The difference in these flavors are that white wine vinegar has a lighter flavor. Red wine vinegar has a more fruity and robust flavor.
Vegan Whipped Feta Dip Recipe with Lemon & Herbs Notes
- Whipping the tofu is key to achieving the luscious, smooth consistency of this dip. Use a food processor or blender for the best results. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides to ensure everything is evenly mixed. Be patient during this step, as it might take a few minutes to achieve the perfect consistency.
- This versatile dip pairs wonderfully with a variety of accompaniments. Serve it with pita bread, crackers, fresh vegetables, or as a sandwich spread. It’s a fantastic addition to a charcuterie board or as a dip for breadsticks.
